You know what’s awesome about marrying a programmer (when you’re a programmer)?
He’s sympathetic when I rant about things like bad variable naming
When work keeps me up late, he helps me out
When work keeps him up late I don’t have to feel ignored because we can have a reasonable conversation about what he needs to accomplish. And if I do help out, he thinks I’m awesome.
Conversations like this:
Me: “I’m just going to go upstairs and put on some sweats and then I’ll be right back to pair with you on that.”
Him: “Okay, I’ll probably have it broken by then.”
Me: “But you’re just var_dumping to verify your array structure.”
Him: “Oh noes!! It’s spitting out a bunch of codes!!!”
When I brag about obscure programming accomplishments online, whenever he sees it, he not only gets it, he’ll make a point of reinforcing to me, “you’re totally right, that feature did save a lot of time.”
100% understood when I would wake up at 4 a.m. with a great idea for a debugging feature and have to go in to work to try and build it.
Rewardingly impressed when I brought home cell phone pics of my debugging output to show off.
